Typing modes and practice types

Typing Studio keeps the first experience simple, but there are still a few choices that affect how practice feels.

The main practice controls

Before you type, pay attention to these controls:

  • Length changes the paragraph size
  • Refresh loads a new paragraph
  • Live Error Feedback controls when mistakes become visible

These are the core knobs a learner uses most often.

Two error feedback modes

The tool supports two different feedback styles:

  1. Live Error Feedback on
    • mistakes turn red as you type
    • this is the most direct mode for beginners
    • use it when you want immediate correction cues
  2. Live Error Feedback off
    • mistakes are not highlighted while you type
    • the run feels calmer, but error review happens after completion
    • use it when you want to test focus without constant visual interruption

How to choose paragraph length

Use shorter paragraphs when you want to:

  • build confidence
  • focus on rhythm
  • repeat several runs quickly

Use longer paragraphs when you want to:

  • test endurance
  • keep your pace stable for longer
  • get more meaningful speed and accuracy trends

A good beginner sequence

For a new learner, this order works well:

  1. Start with a shorter paragraph.
  2. Keep Live Error Feedback enabled.
  3. Finish one full run without rushing.
  4. Retry the same paragraph once.
  5. Move to a longer paragraph only after your accuracy becomes stable.

What success looks like

You know your practice setup is working when:

  • you can complete a full paragraph without quitting midway
  • you understand why you chose the current length
  • you can tell whether live feedback is helping or distracting you
